Dental Cleanings and Prevention
Kelly P. and Kelly G. are our dental hygienist here at Wilson Family Dental. Kelly P. has been a hygienist for over ten years and is efficient, gentle, and precise in her skill and work ethic. Kelly G. joins us from Campbell Family Dentistry. She has been practicing as a dental hygienist for over ten years. She is skilled in her work, and she is compassionate to each patient.
Besides common, preventative cleanings, our hygienists provide periodontal cleanings (scaling and root planing). We recommend a cleaning every 4-6 months and an exam and X-rays annually to achieve excellent dental hygiene and health.
Preventative Oral Health Programs
A preventive oral health program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and hygiene staff to preserve the natural health of your teeth by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of any dental diseases and conditions.
What Happens During a Dental Exam?
- Diagnostic X-ray exams: Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts and bone loss. These X-rays also help determine your tooth and root positions
- Examine existing restorations: Check current fillings, crowns, and other restorations
- Gum disease evaluation: Checking the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease
- Oral cancer screening: Checking the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer
- Tooth decay examination: All tooth surfaces are checked for decay with specialized dental instruments and x-rays
Professional Dental Cleanings
Your cleaning appointment at Wilson Family Dental will include the polishing of your teeth as well as removal of any plaque or tartar. In some instances a patient will need a cleaning that is beyond a typical procedure. In these cases a deep cleaning, called a Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing is needed.
